COURSE DESCRIPTION
In this Data Carpentry-based workshop, we will explore data analysis and visualization with R. No previous experience with digital tools or programming is required for this workshop. Though the examples used in the workshop will be specific to the field of Social Sciences, the techniques and principles covered are applicable to a wide variety of research areas.
Beginning with basic R syntax and the R Studio notebook interface, topics include how to import CSV files, the structure of data frames, how to deal with factors, how to add/remove rows and columns, how to calculate summary statistics from a data frame, and a brief introduction to plotting. The last lesson demonstrates how to work with databases directly from R.
Be sure to come prepared and have the appropriate software and data files downloaded. You will need to have a laptop with a Mac, Linux or Windows operating system (not a tablet, Chromebook, etc) on which you have administrative privileges, as you will need to pre-load specific software packages.
